A Note From Mary Dicken

I could just sit, I could just sit and wait for all your goodness, hope to feel your Presence.

I could just stay, I could just stay right where I am and hope to feel You, hope to feel something again.

I could hold on, I could hold on to who I am and never let You change me from the inside.

I could be safe, I could be safe here in Your arms and never leave home, never let these walls down.

But You have called me higher, You have called me deeper.

And I'll go where You will lead me, Lord.

You'll lead me, Lord.

(lyrics from "Called Me Higher" by All Sons & Daughters)

I didn't think I would be leaving NUMC this year - it wasn't in my plan, and I like to live my life according to my plans. But I've realized that my plans don't always match God's vision for my life. When the opportunity to enter into ministry at a new church arose earlier this year, I tried to resist it. I love our church and my life here with you, and I am so grateful for all of the wonderful ministry experiences I've had here. Why would I leave this great life behind? The more I prayed about this decision, though, the more I heard God's voice calling me, luring me into a different future than I'd envisioned. I realized I need to trust God, leave behind the safe home of NUMC, and venture into a new ministry in a new community.

While I'll no longer be serving at NUMC, I know this church will always be a part of my life. You all welcomed me into ministry, worked alongside me in music and worship ministries, and encouraged me as I began the candidacy process for ordination as a deacon. I have so many great memories here, but one of the highlights has been partnering with the dedicated volunteer musicians of the choir, bells, and worship band and witnessing their growth both musically and as worship leaders. Thank you for all you've given me these past few years - I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for your love and support.

I know God has amazing things in store for this church, for your continued ministry in this community, and I look forward to hearing all about it, even after I'm gone. May God's grace, mercy, and peace be with you always.

Love,

Mary
